Fall Fashion 2022: Outfits & Style Trends

Fall Fashion 2022: Outfits & Style Trends

Girls, it’s almost time. The weather is cooling, the coffee shops are advertising pumpkin drinks, and suddenly our social media feeds are flooded with sweater vests. Fall fashion is upon us.

As New York City moves past the soaring heat and humidity, we’re loving seeing the fam dressing for the autumn season again. High-fashion but cozy ensembles are back in session. If you need a sign, consider this post your reminder to get your fall fashion game in gear.

If you’re feeling totally at a loss for what to wear this fall, we created this guide to the biggest fashion trends, showing you how you can go all the way or just test the waters. Remember, a trend is merely a suggestion. How you make it yours is where the real taste comes in.

Finally, We Can Start Dressing Again

There’s plenty to mourn when the summer dies down, don’t get us wrong. We will miss beach days and fresh tomatoes and slinky little dresses. On the other hand, we will not miss subway station sweating, vacation-envy on social media, and limitations imposed by the heat/

Fall and cooler weather bring the chance to wear more, whether that means layering up or hanging out with the side of your closet you haven’t touched since May. A fall wardrobe is a chance to refresh your personal style and free it from the constraints of a steamy season.

It really is time to start dressing again.

Fall Trends To Get Into This Season

So, that said. Let’s get into the trends that we’re most expecting to see dazzle on the runway come September during New York Fashion Week. If you can’t get to New York Fashion Week IRL, no sweat: the whole thing is streaming online.

It’s possible (and even likely) that something unexpected will blow up on social media, and you’ll have to act fast to get involved. In fact, social media is one of the best ways to stay up to date on what’s hot.

Just remember, dressing is always something that should feel fun and comfortable to you. If that’s your compass, you’ll never be out of fashion.

Saturated and Surprising Knits

We saw crochet ensembles all spring and summer long, so it only makes sense that knitwear would continue to dominate this fall, especially when we’ll start bundling up.

Knitwear in the fall is a no-brainer, but we’re not talking about standard sweater dresses, Mama. No, this year, we’re expecting to see bolder, fully saturated knit ensembles. Go full color with unexpected stripes and abstract color blocks. Lean into a vintage bohemian feel with a cardigan and a maxi dress but give it a modern spin with primary colors.

We tend to think of knits in neutral colors like cream, black, and gray, but there’s a whole rainbow of options to choose from. Let’s have some fun.

High contrast dressing is always encouraged as well. A knit midi dress with black leather Chelsea boots and a parachute bomber jacket? That’s flavor. Add a Blue Mesh Arlen Bag? Now you’re turning heads.

Western Flair

Yee — and we cannot emphasize this enough — haw.

The retro cowgirl look has been unstoppable over the last few years. And while it’s been a blast to go full nineties music video with elaborate fringe, rhinestones, and bright colors, we have a feeling that we’ll be leaning a little closer to the real thing this season.

Think about this season’s trend — like a mix between authentic western vibes and moto biker grittiness. Slim-fit leather pants, Chelsea boots, genuine cow print, and suede fringe jackets. Shoe trends will continue to skew towards the cowboy boot, and we’re happy to continue riding that wave.

If you’re unsure about making the jump on this trend, remember that leather (or faux leather) jackets truly never go out of style. They can be dressed in a million different directions. Trust us — this isn’t our first rodeo.

Bright, Eye-Catching Colors

If you’re tired of always wearing black, we have some good news. Top-to-bottom colorful looks will be huge this season.

Common wisdom used to say that if you’re wearing one bright color, perhaps pair it with a neutral color so as to not clash or overwhelm that standout color. This season, designers and fashion editors are kindly saying, nope, to that idea.

A fully saturated, bright ensemble with almost-clashing patterns and colors can be so stylish and chic when done correctly. In fact, we showed colorful fur (and faux fur) jackets at our Fall 2022 show earlier this year. Life is too short to dress boring, y’all.

We recommend picking up a few pieces of outerwear that make you feel truly iconic and show-stopping, and then we recommend pairing those pieces with some other standout tops and bottoms.

And, because we're us, we also think you should add a brightly colored purse, like our Mini Kendrick Trunk in Metallic Blue Leather. The fall foliage isn’t the only picture-worthy color palette this year!

Prep With a Punk Edge

Fall typically means the back-to-school season.

Now, for those of us who have grown out of the school system a long time ago, that does not mean we can’t rock uniform vibes this September.

On the runways (and on our vision boards), we saw lots of punk takes on the classic prep vibe. Vogue described this trend as an “anarchic school uniform,” and we haven’t stopped thinking about it since.

When putting together those preppy looks, think about how the resident high school rebel would put their spin on a uniform. Pair shirts with cutouts with pleated mini skirts. Rock loafers and knee-high socks with badge-clad denim jackets. Mix plaids and patterns and take some risks with your makeup: Blue eyeshadow is here to stay.

On that note, this season’s jewelry trend is oversized gold chains. Use this information wisely.

Big, Baggy Jeans

The Y2K comeback has kept on coming over the last few years, and we’ve officially reached the big, baggy jean phase.

Denim trends for this season are totally embracing the early aughts, with wide-leg (and, yes, low-rise) jeans dominating our Insta feeds. While this season’s version of the denim may be a shift from recent years, there’s no need to reinvent the wheel.

A white tank top or t-shirt will always look effortless and cute with jeans. And with the right accessories — a big slouchy shoulder bag, for example — you can look model-chic in under five minutes.

Waistcoat Season

Trousers and blazers are huge right now, and this next trend takes that one step further.

It’s vests, y’all. Ditch the blazer (or sling it over your arm) and wear a vest or waistcoat as a shirt to get on board. This sexy, workwear-inspired look has been popularized by celebrities recently, and it’s about time we all get on board. Work from home or not.

If you’re hesitant about wearing a waistcoat on its own, you can layer it over a long sleeve shirt. Pair that with a maxi skirt (with a hemline all the way down to the ground) or a straight-leg trouser, and we think you’ve got a classic fall uniform on your hands.

What we love about a waistcoat is that you’ll get a few seasons of wear out of it, at least. Bringing formal wear into your day-to-day life is as fun as wearing a pajama shirt to brunch. It’s that spark of personal style that shows you know what you’re doing, and you’re not afraid to show it.

Think Pink

If you thought the Barbiecore trend ended with summer, think again. We’re not ready to give up hot pink yet, and the color actually goes perfectly with the season if you know how to rock it.

The trendsetters on TikTok have given us cargo pants, corset-core, and so much more. Now we’re seeing them rocking hot pink bags with western-inspired fits, fall colors, plaids, and more. It’s that perfect little touch of color that takes an outfit to the next level.

Harper’s Bazaar called hot pink one of the nine biggest trends to expect to see this autumn and shouted out our hot pink Syl bag as a prime example.

Here she is on our website with Pink Ponyhair. Obsessed. Wear her with a scarf tied around your neck and a pack of bubblegum inside.

You Wear Trends, Not the Other Way Around

Fall fashion trends always feel refreshing.

It’s basically the start of the new year when it comes to the fashion industry. We can reset, try out some new styles we’ve been eyeing and use layering to take risks, pairing unexpected items together.

Whatever you choose to wear this fall, remember that personal style is a journey and not a destination.
